Cupcake Caper

Eli loves cupcakes!  I love cupcakes!  Daddy?  Not so much.  So I was planning on making Eli (and I) some special cupcakes a couple of months ago.  (My friend Meg had shared her yummy coconut cupcake recipe...yummmmy!)

Before I could do that:

While at school one day, Eli found himself in possession of a dozen or so cupcakes.  Innocently or not, he picked them up after someone had left them behind in the carpool line and proceeded to take them upstairs to his class.  It was a Monday and he had a lot to carry:  napmat, lunch, backpack.  He managed to also pick up this package of cupcakes in a nice container with another family's name on it.

Once upstairs, he presented the cupcakes to his teacher saying something like, "Mommy and I made these for a special treat!"  (Actually, they belonged to another friend for his birthday in ANOTHER class!)

Eli's class shared the cupcakes and when Husband came to pick him up that day, the teacher thanked him for the cupcakes we made.  That's when the problem (for Eli) started.  He then admitted that he knew those cupcakes weren't for his class and the rest of the story tumbled out.

As a result, Eli had to tell the director of the school.  He also had to write a note to his friend who didn't have cupcakes for his birthday at school, miss some special time in his class, make new cupcakes and spend his own money to buy the supplies and have some 'think time' at home.

On the way home, Husband decided to take him by the local police station for a bit of 'tough love.'  He actually thought he might get arrested!  We hope this is his last occasion of taking something that doesn't belong to him...the good news is, cupcakes aren't allowed at school next year when he starts kindergarten. (haha!!)

We still can't figure out why the other child didn't ask about his cupcakes that he carried in from the car that day!!
