Happy birthday to me!

I have passed another milestone. Today was a big birthday for me. Yes, I turned 40. Hard to believe, right? (Go ahead and humor me!)

I've had an interesting day today: I've reminisced about past birthdays (when our car was towed from downtown Dallas, my Thunderbird skating rink party, sleepovers, #21 ('nuff said!), and one of the most memorable was #19.

When I was a freshman at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), the state of Texas was icing and frozen about halfway home. Dad told me to stay at school and come home the next week instead. Then, one of my friends invited me to go to Houston with her rather than stay at the dorm. My parents were glad that I decided to spend time with her.

Well, we got snowed/iced in while there! Who knew the yucky weather would go that far south! Anyway, it was so bad, the entire state was frozen and they cancelled school at the university the following Monday. (First time in history.) And, Nicole and I drove back to school very slowly. The 165 miles took us over 7 hours! We counted bridges/overpasses to occupy ourselves on the way. Very memorable drive!

And, the next weekend was beautiful and I was able to get home to spend time with the fam! The next year, my parents got me a plane ticket home just in case. Turns out, the weather was awesome and 60 degrees. I could've driven home! Blech to the weather!

Today, I took off work so I could spend the entire day with Husband. We took Eli to school, ran some errands, had a yummy lunch at Red Lobster, had yummy dessert at Cheesecake Factory, ran some more errands, went to pick up Eli, and visited with Mom. I got multiple phone calls/messages, emails/posts on Facebook, and cards/packages in the mail. Thanks, friends, for making my day so special!
